Had I let myself down

Delail was sitting in the waiting room, for the cab he had booked, after his second round of interview at Crown Inc's Head quarters, where only three of them were shortlisted for this second interview."We know you three are really the best, but only one person must remain at the end of the day" , said the man in the middle. "Surprised? Don't be." Added the other man on the right. "Whoever has the best performance gets recruited." This was the third of the three interviewers. All three of them spoke in turns, making their points,  so intense.

Individually, the three young men were called in to take their interviews in turn.

"It's been seven minutes already, and the cab hadn't arrived: just then two of the men emerged from the corridor beneath  the waiting room, and with somewhat loud voice, Delail overheard them as they chatted, "I like the three of  them, but I think first to go will be the guy in red tie, we will have to send him home," he emphasized. "I think so too." His colleague responded."Though I like his brains," he continued, " he doesn't have the charisma." He concluded. " You nailed it,... exactly." The other man approved again, as they both walked towards the offices ahead, and their voices faded off with them.

Delail recognised the voices, even though he managed to steal a look at them, but couldn't; saving his head not to be noticed. He was still very sure they were two of the men who conducted the interview he just had, less than twenty minutes ago.

He felt a cold shrill in his tummy, as he sat in the waiting room, his face became pink, and his nerves creaked. He was  feeling the cold waves, coming from within him and his legs began to shiver, as he stood to go. He no longer could wait for the cab he had booked.

"Who else had a red tie?" He asked himself."The other guy had a polka dotted navy blue back tie, and obviously with a matching mocha, it wasn't Abdul basit," He ruminated, as he tried to solve the puzzle.  " It definitely was me. " He accepted.

Delail went over what he had heard as the days passed and thought to himself, "could it had been over so soon?" "I had great expectations". He moaned to himself.  "Oh God, please help me," he cried, as he drifted to sleep in pain and anguish.

Not losing hope completely, he knew what was going to be expected of him if luck rolled his way, and he was invited for the last round of interview. He continued to prepare as if he had been invited for the interview, as he sometimes, hesitantly  got back on the directories to search for more job vacancies.

By the end  of the third week, he received his letter for the last round of interview. He arrived early for his interview, which had three of them back, to his surprise. At the end of the interview session, the  three men were asked to remain in the waiting room. At exactly thirty minutes after, the three interviewees re-emerged and one of them led the speech. "This is not our tradition, but as your last interview generated some arguments, we decided to this once and for all." He said.  "The three of you were not supposed to be here today, but for a benefit of doubt, we decided to give you all,  the last chance and that is why we have decided to give the final letters immediately, at the stance of your performances today."   He continued. Just as he said that, he handed the three men their letters and asked them to act upon what was in their letters, for further guidance, as he bade them all good bye and handed them over to the security officers that would lead them out of the premises immediately.

It was hard for Delail to get  home before opening his letter, but certainly not within the premises of Crown Inc.  When he got out, he strolled to a nearby restaurant, where he sat and opened his letter. He felt the trudge of pain.... A sharp pain, that he had not laboured and believed in vain.

He felt the joy that he had not let himself down. "To God, be the glory." He exclaimed.  He had been confirmed as the regional Sales Director of Crown Inc.
